If you’re anything like me, you may have accumulated a number of cookbooks over the years that are now collecting dust. With the rise of plant-based eating, there are more and more cookbooks competing for our dollar with their vibrant photos and promises of a healthy, happy you.

As a nurse who is also interested in brain health, it has always been important to me to keep all systems of my body aligned. Gut health is an important part of that.

When I came across The Fiber Fueled Cookbook by Will Bulsiewicz available for pre-order, I bought it right away. Doctor B spoke about it at a recent summit, and it intrigued me with its dense but accessible information on improving your gut microbiome, how to heal your gut, and how to test for certain diseases. This cookbook goes beyond recipes, and actually stands as a guidebook if you are experiencing gut issues.

I was surprised with how well organized and easy to read this book is. Don’t worry—it is still chalk full with delicious recipes (125, in fact)  for those seeking a high fiber diet and plant-based dishes! You’ll find recipes for vegan kimchi, sourdough flatbread, and paella, with many beautiful pictures and lots more simple plant-based recipes. This is a great resource for those wanting high fiber, and low fat cooking inspiration!

Each chapter has information from Doctor B’s own medical practice. He walks you through how to test for certain diseases, intolerances, and sensitivities. While not everything is treatable, he provides strategies for determining what the issues are and how to resolve them, if possible.

Low FODMAP and low histamine foods, digestive issues, celiac disease, and different types of food intolerances are also delved into for a comprehensive guide on healing your gut and cooking for sensitivities.

The importance of the gut microbiome is also talked about in another book, The Whole-Body Micro Biome by B. Brett Finlay and Jessica M. Finlay. This one goes into detail about the gastrointestinal tract, and how microbes affect different conditions.

Overall, The Fiber Fueled Cookbook is an extremely valuable guide on plant-based nutrition, and how to optimize your health through your gut. I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone experiencing food allergies, sensitivities, or are wanting to improve their gut health.

Have you looked into The Fiber Fueled Cookbook yet? What recipes are you most excited to try?
